I'm having problems with my baby, the car will crank an I get spark but it wont fire to life. Ive replaced the plugs an coil but still no luck. A day before it quit on me I had the starter switch replaced an it ran fine after I picked it up from the shop, then the next day she kinda hesitated a time or two then as I pulled into a parking place the car never turned over again. Can anybody help or have you had the same thing go wrong? Im about to buy a new distributer but before I do I thought I'd ask the seasoned ones!

1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC Give me a call! 503-9six9-3019

More pictures at: [picasaweb.google.com]#
or at: [portland.craigslist.org]

A fine example of a pampered, unmolested, TOTALLY original Corrado. I have owned the car 6 years, have driven it sparingly, and have cared for it with religious preventative maintenance. The original owner (a retiree) was equally meticulous about upkeep. I have every single receipt from the day the car was purchased - right down to the original window sticker!

Details:

1993 Corrado VR6, 5spd Manual
123k original miles
Runs and drives flawlessly
Motor is rock solid (religious oil changes every 3k miles using Castrol semi-synthetic)
Suspension is tight as a drum
Shifts silky smooth
Brakes are strong
Steering is precise
Exterior original "swartz black" of the car is excellent and it's never been wrecked
Interior (original tan leather) is gorgeous and even includes custom professionally-built armrest
The car has NONE of the usual Corrado problems like broken sunroof, spoiler, or cracked interior plastics
The A/C even works!

Only reason I'm selling is because I'm starting a family soon and need something bigger. If you've been looking for a totally clean, original Corrado look no further! You will be hard pressed to find one that's any nicer. I have more photos that I'm happy to email, just let me know.

Im looking to buy a 91 g60 i located today, but don't really know to much about them. this one is being worked on by a friend of mine that is a very reputable european auto mechanic, and says its in good shape. it has 162k on it, the mechanic just replaced the timing belt, something to do with the fuel control, and has to replace the map sensor on it. the person that is selling it wants 3k. dont think its worth quite that much. it looks to be in good shape for the most part but need some tlc. Does anyone have general info on these vehicles ? How long are the engines good for ? what kind of mileage are these vehicles getting ? gremlins in general ? I dont want to jump into a lemon, (ya the car is yellow haha ) Im already a vw nut, but of the air cooled version. this would be a whole diffrent beast for me.

Hello guys,

Happen to stumble across this forum by pure chance and thought i'd join up to get a different perspective on VW ownership from across the 'pond'

I am heavily involved in a forum in the UK called dubgeneration and have many ideas that can set this forum apart from others, but being the 'new kid' i didn't want to come across as Mr.Know-it-all :)

I hope to get to know a few of you over the next couple of weeks, as i'm sure you already know you guys in the states get different spec'd models to us europeans, so i'm on the hunt for U.S. spec parts ;) I'm sure if your after euro spec parts we can come to an arrangement, swaps >:D<

Speak to you all later,

Intercooler removal (6 replies)

Hey all, I will admit to being a noob here... but ONLY here, lol!

I bought my Rado almost 2 years ago with 186,000 original miles. I'm currently sitting at 207,340.
The charger was grenaded when I got the car (former owner had 2 rado's, blew the FIRST charger in a race, then swapped chargers as the other car was an electrical abomination) and in swapping, thought that a bigger pulley meant more boost, and again blew the charger in yet another race. (Since his "racer" was blown, he sold it to me, lol)

ANYWAYS...

I FINALLY got a rebuilt charger from someone on eBay (265.00 with 50.00 for shipping) and so far, it looks awesome sitting there on the floor of the garage. All nice and clean and shiny (rebuilt 10k ago he said) and... well, not in my car.

I found SCORES of info on replacing it (no help from the Bentley... damned useless POS if you ask me when it comes to major things) and in my travels via eyebal, I learned this:

CLEAN THE INTERCOOLER FIRST!

No problem right? Well, Without looking at the car itself, I chose to read up and print out everything I found.

I have a grievance.

Either some folks cars are designed differently, or someone looked at the wrong car.

MINE (1991 G60) did NOT require the bumper to be removed at all. EVERYTHING I needed was easily accessed through the hood or with the car on jackstands.

3 bolts, plus the hoses. Nothing more. I decided to snap a few pictures for reference for anyone else delving into this little project that would have taken LESS than an hour had I not also took smoke breaks, chatted with the neighbor, fed the dog, smoked a cigarette again, tried to win AC/DC tix on my local radio station (KISW in Seattle rocks... but more music and LESS talk please!) yada, yada, yada...

If I were smart, I would tell you the 2 socket sizes I used, but with all the excitement of getting it cleaned and put back together, I simply forgot. One's a 10mm, that much I remember. I think the other was an 8mm.... don't quote me on it though.

Anyhoo, here are the pics.....

I started out topside, by removing all the hoses connected to the IC, then followed the advice posted all over about Brakleen and a garden hose.

From underneath the car, I saw the intercooler, and at first, I simply grabbed it, and wobbled it around (minus the hoses by the way) EVERY point I saw that moved even the smallest bit was where I concentrated all efforts at removing. which I indicated with red in the pictures.

Once removed, I shook all the shrapnel chunks from within, and then also Brakleen'd it and attacked it voraciously with a Garden Hose.

Once clean, I simply re-assembled in the reverse of removal.

3 bolts, 2 hose clamps, a little dirt and grime, and very little elbow grease and it was all done. Hope this helps out someone in my situation. I haven't the foggiest idea if other year G60's were designed differently, or if the California Edition factor has anything to do with the ease of removal, but in all honesty, if I had just LOOKED under there, I would have saved hours of reading up on something, only to find NONE of the instructions fit. Didn't need to remove the bumper OR the Wheel Well Liner.

**************Well, i DID have pictures to add to this, but I'm pnly allowed ONE picture? Can someone direct me to a forum where I can post them all please? Or allow MORE THAN ONE TO UPLOAD?!?!?!?!?!

Just email me directly, I'm not bothering to check messages here. After all this, and the excitement of making this info public, I'm now too frustrated to keep hacking away at the keyboard. wolffe69@yahoo.com to simply tell me HOW TO Add more than one pic!!!!!!!!!
Hi All

My name is Greg and I am bringing to life my brother's 1993 green VW Corrado VR6 SLC. I'm no mechanic but I am trying to do all of the work myself. The vehicle sat in the garage for the last 4 years, as my brother got VWed out and bought a [ahem] Toyota 4 Runner. I couldn't let that car sit, plus I was tired of banging the lawn mower around it. So I thought lets get it running and sell the damn thing - then I took it for a drive, then another, and another, well lets just say we're gonna hold on to it for a little while longer - that damn thing is a great handling car, it loves 3rd gear out of corners.

Got stranded going around the block after my introduction to the "Bucking Bronco" symptom, LOL so towed it to a shop and got help identifying two loose connections, one was for a missing Vehicle Speed Sensor, VSS, that solved the driving like crap in second gear and then not at all. The other connection would not plug in to the wrong electric auxilary water pump which just happened to be from a Jetta.

So I ordered both parts from the GAP! German Auto Parts in New York and life was good... until I tried to get it SMOGed, but that's another separate post!

So far I've put in a brand new battery, changed the oil using Mobil 1 synthetic, new air filter, new oil filter, all new vacuum hoses, one 5 amp headlight fuse.

It needs new tires, possibly rear shocks, fog light of course, and a splash of paint on the hood, I touched up the bumper already, using Honda touch up paint, turned out pretty good.

some initial pics of the "Green Hornet"
