Dash Reassembled

Still need to buy new chock cable. Climate selector cable will not be connected to the dash until the other end is connected to control flap behind dash. Back of dash was painted white for ease of vision for any future trouble shooting.

Body Work Start

After getting a fuller picture of the amount of old paint on this car I've determined the best course of action will be to strip the old paint layers off the entire car rather than just selected places. With so much paint build up it will be a very difficult proposition to try to feather out all the different paint rings. Chances for a better outcome will result by getting to the bare metal. So that's how I'll proceed. Pic is of the car stripped of its exterior parts for body work.

Psychedelic Paint Job

Started taking the long board to the body work and this is what I found. I counted about 10 different colors of paint and primer. Like a tree, you can determine the age of your mg by counting the rings! Paint stripper will need to be used in the areas where I don't have to worry about disturbing past body work (i.e. bondo).

Dash Disassembly

Wiring, controls, and gauges have been removed and cleaned up. Each gauge has been disassembled and now in the process of painting the inside and out. New white paint on the inside and silver outside. As pics show there was some rust to contend with. Brighter Radio Shack light bulbs are going in the gauges as has been discussed on the forum in the past. New rubber gauge mounting rings should be in the mail in the next couple of days.

Dash Removal

Removal went pretty well. About three of the securing nuts were missing. Another I was able to remove. Another broke from being welded in by the rust and a PO broke another. Some rust on the back side that I will POR-15. Also some oil to deal with. I think when I reinstall the dash I will not put on any of the securing nuts but just let it rest on the studs and secure it along the bottom of the dash to the bar that goes across. With the heater control cables and such I don't think it would go anywhere.
