Fairport Cruise Night

Tuesdays from Memorial day through Labor Day Fairport NYhas a cruise night right on the canal with restaurants, ice cream and live entertainment. Here I am with OUR MG sittin' with my MG car club friends in our usual spot at the Fairport cruise night. There was an Elvis sighting- or an Elvis impersonator. Whatever. There was even an amphicar that took turns driving into the canal and cruising by getting a double take from the non- initiated.

My Little Grocery Getter

I often will take the MGB to the store for a beer run or even the weekly grocery list. With ample trunk (boot) space the MG is really a useable car and can easily hold a weeks worth of groceries for our family of two, including the occasional giant 40 lb. bag of dog food for Amber the wonderdog. Sometimes people will stop and ask me while I'm putting groceries in the trunk if they will all fit , but its really no problem. The trunk is quite large for a small car. I never had a luggage rack, but the only time I wished I had one was 35 years ago picking up someone from the airport in my '71 MGB and having to move the spare tire to behind the seats so we could fit their suitcase in the trunk.

Fun Ride In 99 Year Old Car

I went to a brass era car show yesterday in Bloomfield. The cars were all pre 1918, although there was a 1927 Model T, Corvair and 55 Chevy outside of the show area (and our MG. Among the many Model T's was a C cab T with a calliope built in. I got a short clip of it playing "dixie". I'll upload that to youtube later. Other interesting cars were a pretty little 1913 Studebaker, T speedster, 1896 Electric and 1913 Indian motorcycle. The Hemmings Great Race winning 1911 Velie was there and I know the owner Howard Sharp. He had three cars there so he asked if we wanted to go along for a ride with a group of the cars as they toured the town. So my brother in law Dan and I hopped in his 1912 REO touring car and drove top down through town, across a farm field and through the woods on a tractor path, then back to town! The route took us past our street so I called my wife, Peg and she watched us go past! I felt like we were doing 50, although the speedometer wasn't working. Peg said it looked like 30. Felt faster sitting up high in the back seat with the wind in your face!

Just so you know, George, I'm not happy about you catching up to my number of
journal posts! Beware, I know people in the states and I'm sure I can find out where
you live.

Today is collector car appreciation day from the folks at SEMA. I drove the MGB 102 miles today - to and from work, then my wife Peg and I went to a car show in our old home town of Webster and to visit Peg's Mom. Lots of top down fun in the sports car! The car ran like a champ, and I met a friend with his MGA deluxe at the car show, as well as a fellow with a Midget, besides hundreds of American collector cars. I took this shot by holding my cell phone over my head and snapping about 5 shots- I figured one would come out!

Beautiful day so I took the MGB out all day. Nice day for a drive and the B just purred all day.

Beautiful Drive

What was I saying about wet weather? Big thunderstorm today, lots of heavy rain, and after that ...sunshine and high temps! So I took the MGB to the store after dinner and picked out a nice selection of adult beverages! Sam Adams Lattitude 48 IPA deconstructed to be exact. Great night for a drive and a spirited drive home!
