Canandaigua Downtown Car Show

Today I took the MGB to the Canandaigua downtown car show. They had race cars from Watkin's Glen in the downtown last summer and it gave them the idea to invite local car enthusiasts to show their cars this summer. Show cars all got to park on the sidewalks, so it was a little wierd to dive down the sidewalk past pedestrians and park in front of a store! Over 50 cars were there, and they gave awards for various things, but my wife and I were in the shops and I didn't get to see who won what. There was a beautiful Jag XKE and a Rolls Royce Silver Wraith besides the hot rods, muscle cars and other classics. Surprisingly ours was the only MG there, so got I got lots of comments from former, current, and would-be MG owners. It was a beautiful, hot day with lots of sun and temps in the high 80's. Thankfully there was a hot dog and drink vendor right near me so cold water and sodas were just steps away!

What The Dog Ate.

So first off- the MG is OK and safe under the car cover but...Yesterday our dog was put in the garage while we went to work, and apparently there was a mouse in there too...and she chased the mouse into the corner where the hardtop for my jeep is. Getting at the mouse our dog chewed up about a one foot section of the jeep trail cover that I use to cover the jeep hardtop when I'm not using it. Good thing the mouse didn't run under the MG!

We had the Sports car and vintage auto festival XXXV Sunday June 4 and it had rained non-stop all Saturday and all Sunday morning until about 11 AM when it stopped. The sun came out briefly and the rest of the day was cloudy but no more rain. The poor weather hurt attendance and kept some of the show cars away, but we still had 522 cars on the show field, and several thousand spectators. As usual the British cars brought by club members came out in strength despite the downpour! Thanks to everyone involved from show chairman Richard Powers and all the club members as well as the Victor Lions club members for an outstanding effort despite the bad weather. I helped direct cars on the show field and once it stopped raining it wasn't a bad day after all!

Detailing For The Show

Took off from work today to detail and clean up the B for the upcoming car show this weekend. I took her for a drive before the clean up to enjoy the warm sunny day. Besides the obvious wash and wax, I waxed the inside of the trunk and under the hood. I like to drive the old girl, she's no trailer queen, so the bugs sucked through the fan under the hood are a real problem! I noticed one of my side marker lights is not level, but the holes in the fender give no room for adjustment so I'll have to chalk it up to British quality control! The wire wheels I painted five years ago are beginning to show signs of rust where the wires cross. I'll have to pull the wheels and paint them later this summer. No time for that before the show! Later, my wife and I went to a MG car club party to stuff envelopes for the car show participants.

Photo Op

Yesterday a photographer came over from the paper and took a lot of photos of our MGB, with my wife and I , not in that order, for an article on the upcoming Sports car and Vintage Auto Festival XXXV. I have been doing some PR for the club and they needed a car that would be in the show for the photo shoot. Needless to say I obliged! We sat in the car, drove in the car, parked the car, the photographer stood on a ladder, layed under the car, hung out of the car, moving, slow, fast, stopped. OK so it was a fantasy come true. The last thing he did was take an extreme close up of the MG badge on the trunk, and he looked at at me and said "watch that be the only shot they use"...Now I hope they use some of the photos!

Car Show Meeting

I met again tonight with several members of the MG Car Club Western New York Centre and Victor Lions Club to finalize plans for the June 4 Car show. The show field looks like it is well organized and the spectator parking is going to be acres and acres according to the Lions club representative. There are already lots of pre-registrations in and it looks like we'll have a good show in our new location. I've attached a picture from a recent show to give you an idea of the numbers of cars. We have over 30 classes and most are full of cars in the same group or type.
